Looking After your Hired E-Bike

Looking After your Hired E-Bike

The E-Bike you have hired will be fully charged, checked, and ready for you to ride.

To have a great days cycling exploring the Lake District National Park there are several key points to bear in mind. We explain all these following points to you before letting you ride off as we introduce you to the Electric-Bikes.

1. AVOID IMMERSION IN WATER AT ALL COSTS

The electronic components are all IP54 rated. This means that they are protected from water spray from any direction. But not against full immersion in deep puddles, becks, lakes, tarns , or the sea.

Therefore, great care should be taken to avoid heavily flooded roads or fording streams. Essentially anywhere where the motor and battery charging point can become immersed.

Damaged caused by water damage to electrical components will be charged for and the date will show up on the Bosch electrical fault evaluation programme.

2. DO NOT ALLOW TO OVERHEAT

While out on hire on sunny days in summer the bike should not be left in the full sunshine. This will inevitably lead to temperatures that exceed the batteries working range and may in extreme heat cause permanent damage to the very expensive Bosch battery.

3. USE POWER EFFICIENTLY

The efficient use age of the four modes of power assistance will affect the distance you can travel with E-power. The speed of your pedalling, known as cadence, has a direct effect on the power output of each level of assistance.

Most of the time by using Eco or Tour modes of assistance most E-Bikes will happily cover 50-70 miles a day. But over use of the two most powerful modes Sport and Turbo will rapidly reduce the milage available. These are best used only for the hill climbs. All the Electric-Bikes have a range of gears which need to be changed prior to changing the assistance modes for maximum cycling efficiency.

4. SPEED OF ASSISTANCE LIMITED TO 15MPH

The E-power will only take you to 15 mph as this is the maximum assisted speed allowed on road in the UK. So if you are exceeding 15 mph the motor ceases to give power, similarly if not pedalling ie free wheeling down hill, you do not use E-power. This is very important to bear in mind to ensure the battery life is extended to its maximum milage.

5. DO NOT LET THE E-BIKE OUT OF YOUR SIGHT

When you hire the E-Bike you are totally responsible for its return to the hire base in Lowick  in the same condition as hired. Bike thefts of E-bikes is not uncommon even in the Lake District. So its very important to ensure the hired E-Bike is safe at all times.

Most importantly of all is to enjoy your time on the hired E-Bike, enjoy the cycling adventure in The Lake District and make some incredible memories!
